13:00 Special Session on TMJ / TMD
Saturday, June 27, 2009
; Estrelsaal B

Session Chairs:
Cornelia Kober, PhD (D)
Yoshihiko Hayakawa, PhD (J)

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is one of the most complicated joints in the human body. About 10 - 15 % of the population suffers from Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD) ranging from simple clicking to advanced degeneration due to tumor or trauma associated with severe pain. Notably, TMD diagnosis and therapy are still subjects of intensive research as there is no gold standard. This session is dedicated to a multidisciplinary discussion about this joint from different views, namely from anatomy, from oral radiology, from mechanobiology, from cranio-maxillofacial surgery, and computer aided visualization and simulation.

13:00 A recent study concerning the functional anatomy of the TMJ
U. Stratmann, Univ. of Münster (D)

13:15 Temporomandibular joint imaging
