14:00–15:00 | Tutorial on Surgical DICOM, IHE and Interoperability
Saturday, June 26, 2010, Room 2
Oliver Burgert, PhD, Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS), Leipzig (D),
Michael Gessat, ETH Zurich (CH)
The field of Computer Assisted Therapy has matured during the last years and a significant number of installations are available in hospitals all over the world. Unfortunately, like in PACS systems in the early 90’s, interoperability between devices is very limited which hinders a broad acceptance and rapid development of such systems. The DICOM Working Group 24 “Surgery” addresses this issue by enhancing the DICOM standard towards it’s usage in surgery. Additionally, there are further measures needed to ensure the coordinated use of these extensions - an issue which is most properly addressed by the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) initiative. The tutorial presents the current state of the DICOM standard and highlights recent supplements from all DICOM Working Groups which are of relevance for Computer Assisted Therapy.
